BMX Hacks

Hack your BMX and give another season!

If you want to avoid lacking equipment in the coming season now it’s the time for you to make a move. Some of your parts might need a replacement, and replacing them now might save you some valuable time and money.

“As a BMX rider, I’ve done lots of part replacements. The three defiantly most common and important parts to replace are grips, tyres and pedals. I’ve changed these parts hundreds of times, simply because they get worn out fast when riding every day. Do yourself a favor and optimize your riding experience by updating your grips, tyres and pedals.”
- Jonas Kaadt, BMX-Expert

Here are Nordic Sport's suggestions on top-3 BMX parts you should replace in order to make your equipment last for another season.

1. GRIPS

Grips are exposed to damage of all kinds. All BMX riders know that. Grips are being replaced often, mostly because they get worn out quickly. Things like sweaty hands, big drops, dirty bars, falls to the ground or rainy weather are all contributing to the destruction of your grips. In order to perform well on your BMX, functional grips are a must-have.

It’s essential for the rider to have grips in order not to lose traction with the handlebar. With no traction simple tricks like bunny hop, manual and bar spins are more difficult to carry out. Also when riding in general, the risk of slipping off the bike is higher with no, or worn out, grips. Grips today are available in all different kinds of colors and forms, and many riders use grips to make their BMX look more stylish. At the moment Nordic Sport is having a clearance sale on grips. 2. TYRES

If you’re riding your BMX frequently you’ll probably know the devastating feeling of having a flat. Flats always happen at the most unfortunate moments possible, like when jumping the first ledge or dropping into the bowl. To get a better riding experience, solid tyres are a necessity. It’s important for a BMX rider to rely on the equipment. If you, for instance, are doing a sketchy stair jump, the last thing you want to worry about, is whether your tyres can resist it or not.

Also tyres can be very stylish. They come with different patterns and in different colors. Making the color on your tyres fit the color on your sprocket, grips or pedals, will provide your bike with a new and fresh look. If you got one damaged tyre and one undamaged tyre, you can beneficially just acquire one new tyre. Matter a fact, many riders prefers to ride with different sized tyres to optimize the riding experience. It is common to use a thinner rear tyre for less rolling resistance and thicker front tyre for more traction, but at the end of the day it’s all about preferences. Check out our BMX tyres here.

3. PEDALS

Pedals are crucial. You use the pedals to maintain balance and speed but also to carry most of your body weight. Your feet will often leave the pedals when doing tricks, and you don't want to land back on a pair of pedals with minimal grip, risking your feet to slip and damaging your shins. As a BMX rider you'll know how much pain pedals to the shin can cause and you really want to avoid that from happening.

Some pedals features steel pins for better traction. Steel pins are handy, because you can change the pins separately plus customize how many pins (how much grip) you want. Riding with steel pins on the pedals also makes the pedals last longer duo to less actual
pedal contact.

Other reasons to replacing your pedals could be if you want a colorful pair to make your bike appear more stylish or if you simply want to try a different size, material or brand. With that being said, go out there and prepare your bike for the season to come. Never go down on equipment - check out our pedals here.
